Indeed ! And you know, the single time in years my dog had an accident inside I did not mind. She is worth every bit of it. In 6 years she is sleeping with me she had only about 3 accidents, and all from what I fed her LOL. Mea culpa ! Nothing warmer than a snoozing dog next to you on cold winter nights !

The band Three Dog Night was named after the aboriginal Australian practice of sleeping with dogs in a hole in the ground in cold weather.

One dog for chilly, two dogs for cold, and three when it froze.

Yours is a long and noble tradition.

oh I did not know that story ! I vaguely remember one song of them. I love the idea though. I just saw a story in the news a couple of days ago, where a Russian girl got lost and was discovered sheltering with a stray dog, 18 hours in the icy cold. So even one big enough dog can do the job ! Thanks for this story !

I never wondered what that name means, good to know in case....

I read that the three-dog night practice originated in Alaska.

In Fairbanks when the bottom drops out below -40 degrees, three dogs just won't cut it.

One husky on each side, one for the feet, and one on top.

Four Dog Night.

The problem with huskies is that they are so well insulated they feel cold to the touch on the outside! I used to wake up next to mine (not in a -40 degree hole in Fairbanks, mind you...in a cool but not freezing attic bedroom) and poke her awake because I thought she was dead.

I guess it depends on the breed of husky. Siberians and wolf-mixes can be pretty toasty.

Mine is a beagle mix. VERY toasty. And lovely snoring too

My pooh-bear only had accidents inside the house in his last couple years. I'd gotten doggie diapers for him but that didn't work. I also didn't mind cleaning up after him.
