Rousseau: Do you like cats?

Boswell: No.

Rousseau: I was sure of that. It is my test of character. There you have the despotic instinct of men. They do not like cats because the cat is free, and will never consent to become a slave. He will do nothing to your order, as the other animals do.

other version of dog domestication. Dogs watch humans throw away leftovers. Dogs eat leftovers, saying to each other, we will follow them if they have no leftovers anymore we can always eat the men. Men say to each other, let them follow. They keep away the vermin from our leftovers, and if worst come to worst, we can eat the dogs.

If you are picking up the poo of another creature, you are the one who has been domesticated.

Indeed ! And you know, the single time in years my dog had an accident inside I did not mind. She is worth every bit of it. In 6 years she is sleeping with me she had only about 3 accidents, and all from what I fed her LOL. Mea culpa ! Nothing warmer than a snoozing dog next to you on cold winter nights !

The band Three Dog Night was named after the aboriginal Australian practice of sleeping with dogs in a hole in the ground in cold weather.

One dog for chilly, two dogs for cold, and three when it froze.

Yours is a long and noble tradition.

oh I did not know that story ! I vaguely remember one song of them. I love the idea though. I just saw a story in the news a couple of days ago, where a Russian girl got lost and was discovered sheltering with a stray dog, 18 hours in the icy cold. So even one big enough dog can do the job ! Thanks for this story !

I never wondered what that name means, good to know in case....

My pooh-bear only had accidents inside the house in his last couple years. I'd gotten doggie diapers for him but that didn't work. I also didn't mind cleaning up after him.

It takes a village to properly serve cats.

See the references below to almond roca dog treats and sandy candy. It is significant that it is the dogs eating the cat shit, not the other way round.

Once the dogs have had their fill, then the human cleans up what's left.

It should be abundantly clear which species is at the bottom of the pecking order, and which is at the top.

Too bad Rousseau himself was the prototype for the modern despot.

"The social treaty has for its end the preservation of the contracting parties. He who wills the end wills the means also, and the means must involve some risks, and even some losses. He who wishes to preserve his life at others’ expense should also, when it is necessary, be ready to give it up for their sake. Furthermore, the citizen is no longer the judge of the dangers to which the law desires him to expose himself; and when the prince says to him: 'It is expedient for the State that you should die,' he ought to die, because it is only on that condition that he has been living in security up to the present, and because his life is no longer a mere bounty of nature, but a gift made conditionally by the State."

One can only hope for the existence a tenth circle of hell for Rousseau and his entire infernal lot.

Their ideology is civilizational syphilis.

Unfortunately, many people prefer being told what to do. With freedom comes the responsibility to exercise reasoned, independent judgment. It is much easier just to obey someone else’s commands.

“Trust thyself”, says the person of courage.

“Trust the experts”, says the coward.

Expand full comment

And they prefer it because thinking is too much work, and supposing they stumble upon independent judgment, they’ll have a dickens of a time convincing others to think for themselves (also work). Maybe we’re a lazy civilization?

The White Rose is a paragon of decentralized activism, not like the established NGOs that are just elitist mouthpieces. $10 for 1000 subversive stickers, no salaried employees, high impact. This is the way.

wheatpaste will do just fine, that's flour in hot water, left to sit until it cools - you want to stir it of course for even consistency... then use a broad brush, put a thin coat on the back, slap it up, press the air out, and put a thin coat on top. Let dry... it won't be coming off, anytime soon.

Nonsense. Surely huge foundations like Bill & Melissa Gates Foundation only wish to improve health in poor nations. The fact that major donors (or the recipients of grants from B&MG) have overlapping interests in vaccine, other medical, media, and have bought and paid for government influencers where needed, has nothing to do with anything. B&MG is only one major player. But when you're supplying upwards of ten percent of a UN entity's budget (WHO), something is seriously wrong!

Expand full comment

is this meant to be sarcasm?

It's hard to tell sometimes

Expand full comment

That's why some of their vaccines, which were 'deployed' in Africa (shades of Margaret Sanger), actually caused spontaneous abortions and infertility, I guess. The Gates Foundation 'only wanted to improve health.'

This is yet another very important post about intelligent disobedience. I have relatives that are so fed up and so disgusted and horrified with WA state restrictions, however.... they would never dream of "disobeying." So they dutifully wear masks in public. The question is how do we convince this group of people that they are not going to hell if they don't obey the health department??

Expand full comment

This is a great question. The things people do "because it's the rules" are disgusting and make me sick. Physically gross me out. I've never been a ruler follower (thank you overbearing parents, my college hippy friends, and LSD).

I think it's important to know WHY people will follow rules, even if they grumble about them. Many people have a huge emotional need for security and approval, and following the rules, even if they grumble, is more emotionally satisfying to them than the alternative.

https://bherr.substack.com/p/why-have-people-gone-insane

I think to answer your question, you (we) need to first understand what emotional need these people need the most, and then do our best to join them where they're at. I'm not saying agree with them or support their fear of breaking the rules, but show them you at least can see where those needs could cause them to go along.

Then, I think intelligent disobedience starts much like working out. It's a muscle, and the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes.

However, just like the person who gross gripes about their weight but never changes their diet and never starts exercising, you can't force them. They themselves simply have to get to the place where the pain of staying the same exceeds the pain of change. Only then will someone actually pursue the changes.

I can't imagine being someone who follows the rules. I just can't. Sometimes I try, but then I get ill. My body shudders. It's slimy and I just don't see how someone can respect themselves, ravenously especially when the rules are as arbitrary and authoritarian as they've become. But then again, so few people really do have any self-respect.

I would hesitate to claim that the average pilot is as intelligent as a guide dog, but the federal regs governing us contain the same privilege/responsibility: when in command of an aircraft, a pilot must follow the directions of air traffic control *unless that pilot judges that to comply would be unsafe or create a hazard in flight or to persons on the ground.* And in that case, you reply with one word: "unable." And ATC has to accommodate you at once.
