Jeffrey Tucker is a leader of American Institute for Economic Research and a primary driver of The Great Barrington Declaration so he has been in the vanguard of arguing against lockdowns and in favor of a rational approach.

That’s wonderful, as far as it goes (which is far, TBS). So then how could he have been so clueless for so long about the vaxxes?

Ha! I think you mean, "as obvious as this is, *somebody* other than Bad Cat and his merry band of misfits" *should* have known, or at least predicted. I rather think the indications were there early on. And maybe, just maybe, a reasonably run set of trials--you know, the type where the outcome is not pre-planned to make the vaccines look good--would have shown this. (Actually, my read of the trial data does indicate that all-cause mortality was worth taking a closer look at, but...)

As to how the orthodoxy survives, history is chock-full of practices and custom that seem obviously flawed in hindsight that were almost worshiped at the time. Unfortunately, we are living through an example.

And also, the fact that “orthodoxy” no longer has any meaning, unless you live in Opposite World.

Jeffrey, Jeffrey, Jeffrey! The orthodoxy survives this the way it survives any set of facts. Here is how this will go down (if it ever surfaces in the MSM): "Lookit how bad things are getting. We simply have not done enough to force the unvaxxed to get the jabs. This is all their fault! Time for universal vaccine cards that are required everywhere to do any kind of business. The unvaxxed will either starve to death or get vaxxed. Either way, we get rid of them and all our covid problems are solved!" Here is the truth a most people on our side (fact lovers) constantly miss: THE FUEL THAT ALLOWS THE ORTHODOXY TO SURVIVE COMES FROM MAKING VILLAINS OUT OF THOSE WHO DON'T SUPPORT THE ORTHODOXY!

Watch the KY, NY and WA (Oct 2019) legislation to allow governors to determine who goes and for how long, to camps. (The National Guard advertised federal jobs for State "internment camps" in 2020.) It sure looks like that plan will be implemented very quickly. The disappearance of the un-injected will be "fact-checked false" and barely noticed, and easily forgotten, because we have been physically and ideologically divided. (Look how the Jan 6 political prisoners have been treated -- all human rights have been denied -- and they're in the news.) They will go into action when the lines of communication are cut for a week or so.

Well, the orthodoxy survives anything its Storm Troopers want it to. Lotta money and power invested in it. I was too young to have memories of the Eisenhower Presidency, and was only familiar with his military-industrial complex quote, but there's this, too: '“Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields… ,” Eisenhower warned. “Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity.”' [from AAAS 2011 article by Warren E. We all know what opinions are like, we've all got one, so here's mine. Before the pandemic, medical treatment was the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Well, during the pandemic, lack of medical treatment was the leading cause of death. Not the "virus". And that refusal to treat (with what was on hand) was DELIBERATE. Doctors who had direct contact with the virus in vivo figured out different ways to deal with it but the fat-cat-bullies ignored them, ridiculed them and are now fighting them in court. You know the rest of the story. But please, have a little sympathy for the virus. It's really not to blame for this disaster. Pfizer, Fauci, CNN, WHO, NIH, A. Cuomo, Whitmer, FDA, CDC, and any politician who takes money from Pharma guilty as sin.

I get the vibe that JAT is being sarcastic. That or maybe he was too optimistic? I know lots of us were hoping that the vaccines would be more effective, especially as a counterweight to their severe side effects. It's hard to think that so many risked so much (and some people even died) for barely 6 months of "protection" from a virus that wasn't likely to kill them anyway. I just hope the vaccinated realize this and think really hard about whether or not they want any more of these novel therapeutics.

you just have to realize that many of the folks that have been drawn into this are moving into a field that they have not worked in before. it's complex, the biology is something they have not assessed before, and drug and vaccine research and studies are a highly specialized field in which not many are conversant.

i just happened to know how it worked when this all began because i read A LOT of studies like this and work on their design.

to come in as a layperson you expect vaccines to work, at least partially. ideas like OAS and the long track record of mRNA being an awful modality for therapeutics are arcane even among those who work in life sciences.

it's really not fair to pillory the folks who came in as non experts and sought to get up to speed. this is hard, confusing, non-intuitive material.

save that for all the folks who claimed to be experts and clearly had no idea what they were saying, the one who lied and who claimed their credentials granted credibility.

As a “critical” cultural medical anthropologist, I have been intrigued at this divide. Yes, I believe Gato is correct about the arcaneness of biological understanding beyond the reach of many, abd that lead untrained folks to accept the narrative. But it goes beyond that as well to a level of trust in authorities and degree of sensitization (or rather far too often, desensitization to pressured efforts to pushing specific ic narratives, castigating earnest clinicians developing early treatments, cancellations of alternative thinkers, and apparently consolidated efforts to promote a singular vax view globally along with demonization of challengers. To me, the question is how much of these will it take to open up minds, both of those trained in the esoteric sciences and those untrained. Given the experts that continue to promote the vax narrative, there is clearly much more going on. I would love to unpack that complexity.

I appreciate your magnanimity. However, this was presented as an existential crisis by ALL players. As such, this demanded that we educate ourselves on the topic thoroughly and fast. All of the "arcane" topics you referenced, I was able to grasp by March/April 2020. I must say that it was horrible watching a train wreck happen in real time, especially when you were telling those around you that the train was fixing to wreck.

Where I ran into frustration and a little bit of anger, was when I tried to discuss these issues with people that should have been able to grasp the subject matter, or to at least be capable of simple doubt concerning the narrative. For the most part, I was met with the same kind of incredulous response as Mr. Tucker's.

Among other things, Naomi Wolf discusses her ostracism from the Left, and how events today mirror the authoritarianism template that she mapped out in her 2007 book, The End of America. Highly recommended.

Monday morning status meeting: Yet another coworker announced that she (and her whole family) just came down with omicron. I'm guessing she's vaxxed - don't know for sure - but it just goes to show you that *everybody* is gonna get it.

I guess if you can "have" "it" and not be sick that makes it likely that it can be said that "everybody" gets it ...

Not specific to this post, but wondering about that HS hockey player who just died. First news reports stated he "collapsed" and then another player crashed into him and accidentally slashed him with skate.

All later reports said he "fell" and then was hit.

And I'm thinking about the poor kid who will now go through life believing that he himself was the prime cause of the other kid's death. And how it's in the interests of the authorities to maintain that. A significant difference between "collapsed" and "fell," ain't there?

An honest coroner would require an autopsy. Keep your eye on the state coroner's reports, specifically the heart. They will not test for spike protein cellular damage.

Super infectious, low mortality. Of course it won't spread like wildfire. Who'd a thunk it?

How do I upgrade to paid subscriber? I am paying for around a dozen subscriptions, but can't remember how to upgrade if I started reading for free?

Expand full comment

I don't think you can! When I first "subscribed" to this Stack a few months ago, I searched far and wide in Substack trying to find the "pay" button, because I was new to Substack so I figured I just wasn't looking in the right place. Turns out, the bad cat is doing this pro bono!

Others (myself included) have suggested that it offer a pay level, because it's well worth paying for, but the cat has said that he doesn't need the money (I paraphrase badly, but that's the gist of it, IIRC).

Still, if it ever offers a pay structure, I'll be ponying up the dinero.

Another, much less known Kat, predicted they would blame them on The Orange. Recycled election strategy.

exactly, and the perfect corpse to announce that would be Obiden

Hard not to blame him - the setup was so good. Look up the warp speed EO, Sept. 19, 2019, and weep. Trump will not get out of that one.

That he keeps advocating for the jabs does not look good. He lacks discernment, sadly.

I love Jeffrey's optimism, but I think he'd agree that he has something of the trait of Jared Osborne in Daniel Quinn's _The Story of B_, that being he can absorb lots and lots of information without drawing a conclusion. Is the "friend" you mention Geert Vanden Bossche?
